Yasumasa Morimura is an appropriation artist born in Osaka, Japan. He re-creates paintings and embeds his own face into them. By pacing his self-image into these paintings and photographs, he re-imagines the narrative, as well as context of these works. I find these revision of the works fascinating, not only because it is visually interesting, but because Morimura manages to cross cultural, gender, social status and art history barriers all in one work.
